Sunday 28 April ~ May 11

Traveling to Korea on business.

Saturday 11

Arrived back from two weeks in Korea.  I wandered around feeling pretty jet lagged, but I did check up on the project and sure enough there was more sanding and filling waiting for me.

Sunday 12

I smooth primed both stabilizers and trim tabs and added a bit around the the windows.  By the time you wait 2 hours for drying the best you can hope for is to get about 4 coats on.  This works out okay because I sand it down using 150 grit paper and then add a couple more coats with the spray gun,

Monday 13

I sanded back smooth prime around one window, and put a bit more filler around the door latch.  Getting the doors nice an flush with the fuselage is going to be a labor of love.

Tuesday 14

I spend a couple more hours sanding back smooth prime around the other window and putting a little more filler around the low spots.

Thursday 16

I decided to bite the bullet and add a whole lot more filler around  the door sill on the port sided needed filler because the door was still sitting proud.

Friday 17

I sanded back the filler I put on last night and decided that I really needed to to the vertical gap as well.  This is never ending!.  My biggest fear is that after the first day in the hot sun and it will all move anyway.

Saturday 18

Masked back the bottom of the fuselage in preparation for spaying on final coats of smooth prime. After I had done that I  sanded back one stabilizer with 150 grit paper using 3M guide coat.  This product works great,  it is a fine black carbon power that is applied with a sponge.  You sand it off and it shows all of the low spots.  It's far easier than the spay lacquer method I was using earlier.

Sunday 19

I had been using an old spray gun that Marty has lent me.  The thing was something he rescued from the next door neighbors garbage in about 1980.  I decided that it was time for a better gun I after careful selection I  bought a new HVLP spay gun.  My first try with this thing was an absolute mess. I got runs everywhere.

Saturday 25

I spent the whole day rubbing out runs that I had put in yesterday.  Its a good thing that is only smooth prime.

Sunday 26

I masked up the fuselage again and spot spayed all of the places that I had rubbed right through.  I used a small touch up gun it did a really great job.
